Week 6 Prompt Response - Integrated Advisory

While I like to consume different genres of media, from romance and comedy to action and adventure, I tend to separate genres by form of media. I typically read romance novels and watch action movies and funny TV shows. Based on my own experience, I think it would be a fun idea to do a play on a blind date with a book display but instead of having plot points written on the wrapping, having “if you liked this, read this” recommendations across genres written on the wrapping.
For example, the book Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura could be wrapped with the recommendation “if you liked Indiana Jones, you might like this book”, or Everything for You by Chloe Liese could be wrapped with the label “if you liked Ted Lasso, you might like this book”. This could help those who have been hesitant to try reading romance to connect with a romance novel based on their other interests. A display like this could also go the opposite direction by having books in genres like mystery or sci-fi wrapped with romance read-alike recommendations for the romance readers who are wanting to branch out.

  1. Blind date with a book is such a good idea for those who aren't sure about romances. I know people can be really put off by some of the covers, so this is a great idea to get people into it. I've seen some romance books start their summaries by saying fans of this show, movie, or other book will like this book. For example, the summaryThe Long Game by Elena Armas starts off by saying it's perfect for fans of Ted Lasso and It Happened One Summer. This is a great way to grab people's attention with things they know they enjoy!

  2. I love the way you switched up the normal blind date with a book - that's a great way to reel in reluctant romance readers. Great idea!

    1. I also think that's a great twist! When I did a Blind Date With a Book display a couple of years ago, the text on the outside was the first line of the book. I was also planning to do a Mystery Passport version to fit in with our summer reading theme this year, where the outside would have a travel brochure-style description of the setting. However, a coworker did Blind Date With a Book this month, so it might be too repetitive.
